Sustainability Audits and Funding Program
LION Publishers offers a Sustainability Audits and Funding program that provides a comprehensive assessment of news businesses. This program not only assesses organizational sustainability but also offers actionable recommendations and resources. Participants in the program may receive up to $20,000 in funding if they implement at least two recommendations from their audit report. Since 2021, nearly 200 publications have undergone audits, with plans to assess another 200 by the end of 2024.
News Entrepreneur Academy
The News Entrepreneur Academy by LION Publishers provides extensive training and resources to help news businesses achieve sustainability. It offers members-only content, full guided courses, and shorter lessons on specific topics. The Academy also includes a resource library with downloadable tools and templates. This educational focus aims to build knowledge and skills necessary for the growth and maintenance of independent news businesses.
Strategic Growth Plan
LION Publishers has established a five-year strategic growth plan aimed at assisting 100 of its members to advance to the 'Growing' stage of sustainability. This plan encompasses various initiatives and support mechanisms designed to ensure long-term growth and sustainability for independent news organizations. By focusing on strategic development, the plan aims to provide the necessary tools for these entities to thrive.
Project Oasis
Project Oasis, an initiative by LION Publishers, seeks to map and highlight the increasing number of locally focused digital news publications across the U.S. and Canada. This project provides an overview of the landscape of local digital news, showcasing the diversity and reach of these publications. By identifying and promoting these local outlets, Project Oasis aims to enhance visibility and support for independent journalism at the community level.
