Before joining TomTom, Walter Korte worked at Drivetech Taiwan as an SW Development Manager from 2001 to 2005. He also held software development roles at Private and SOYO Taiwan between 1997 and 2001. He began his professional career as an FAE Engineer at SOYO Netherlands, where he worked from 1996 to 1997.
Educational Background
Walter Korte’s educational journey is diverse and internationally rooted. He holds a Ph.D. in Sinology from Leiden University, completed between 1991 and 1997. Additionally, he studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at National Taiwan University from 1995 to 1996. He also has a background in Computer Science from TU Delft Technische Informatica, where he studied from 1988 to 1991.

Walter Korte has extensive experience managing vertical stacks, particularly in positioning and audio technologies. He has developed localized features for the Asian market, such as smart input for Chinese and Thai languages, optimized POI searching index, and realistic junction view images. His expertise in map conversion and enhancement is specific to China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
