History
aiEDU was founded in 2019 with the mission to create equitable learning experiences and build foundational AI literacy. The organization began its journey with a meeting with a 20,000-student school district in a vulnerable community to AI and automation. aiEDU conducted a landscape analysis in partnership with Georgetown Center for Security & Emerging Technology (CSET). Over the years, aiEDU has focused on empowering educators, schools, districts, and other education organizations with accessible curricula and learning resources.
Educational Resources
aiEDU provides a wide range of educational resources designed to introduce and enhance AI literacy. AI Snapshots are 180 classroom warmups built to spark debate and ignite curiosity. The Intro to AI course is a 10-week project-based learning experience that covers the fundamentals of AI through culturally relevant lessons. Flex Plans are print-and-go projects designed for busy educators. The Project Dashboard features unique, engaging projects tailored for high school students. These resources aim to make AI education accessible and engaging for both educators and students.
Partnerships and Funding
aiEDU collaborates with a diverse group of partners to advance access to AI education. The organization has received significant funding to support its mission, including a $1 million grant from The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation and a $250,000 grant from NewSchools Venture Fund. Additionally, aiEDU received a $2 million unrestricted grant from Ballmer Group to further its efforts in advancing AI literacy and bridging the opportunity gap in education. These partnerships and funding sources are critical to aiEDU's ability to provide free resources and support to educators and students.
Theory of Change
aiEDU's Theory of Change centers on empowering educators, schools, districts, and other educational organizations with accessible curricula and learning resources. By providing free online resources, professional development, and ongoing support, aiEDU aims to equip educators with the tools needed to empower their students with AI literacy. The organization defines AI literacy as the collection of skills and knowledge required to understand, use, and critically evaluate artificial intelligence. aiEDU's initiative seeks to ensure that all students, particularly those in vulnerable communities, have the opportunity to benefit from the rapid digitization of the economy and society.
