Artemis Gold's Blackwater Project is set to become one of the largest gold mines in Canada. The project plan includes an initial milling rate of approximately 16,500 tonnes per day, with expansions in phases. It involves mining a total of 334 million tonnes of ore and 586 million tonnes of waste rock over a mine life of 22 years. The processing facilities will utilize a combined gravity circuit and whole ore leach method for gold and silver recovery. The estimated closure costs for the project stand at C$175 million, factoring in future reclamation plans.
BC Mines Act Permit 2023
In March 2023, Artemis Gold received its BC Mines Act permit from the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. This milestone enables the company to advance its operations at the Blackwater Mine, aligning with regulatory requirements and ensuring adherence to environmental and safety standards.
Agreements with Indigenous Nations
Artemis Gold has engaged in multiple agreements with Indigenous Nations to support the development of the Blackwater Project. In 2019, a trilateral project participation agreement was signed with the Lhoosk’uz Dené Nation and Ulkatcho First Nation. Further, in May 2021, an impact benefits agreement was secured with the Nazko Nation. These agreements aim to ensure mutual benefits and collaboration throughout the project's lifecycle. Discussions with the Carrier Sekani First Nations are ongoing.
