I've been a director at Meta AI since 2019, where I worked on integrity in online networks, aligning AI with human values, neural databases, affective computing and most recently, personal information management. Until December, 2018, I was the CEO of Megagon Labs, (formerly known as The Recruit Institute of Technology), where I built and managed a team of 20 researchers and engineers. Our lab performed research on a broad range of topics in data management and AI. In particular, we developed technology for helping users' well-being with AI. Before Megagon, I spent 10 years at Google, leading the Structured Data Group in Google Research. We worked on various aspects of structured data and the web, such as Google Fusion Tables and WebTables, a search engine for HTML tables on the Web. Prior to joining Google, I was a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Washington, Seattle. I'm a founder of two companies, Nimble Technology (1999-2003, enterprise information integration) and Transformic Inc. (2004-2005, deep web technology, acquired by Google). I am also the author of The Infinite Emotions of Coffee, a book that looks at coffee culture around the world and of "Principles of Data Integration".
