Education and Early Career of Michael Odinet

Dr. Michael Odinet was born and raised in Arabi, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University (LSU), where he obtained a BS in Microbiology and was also a member of the football team. He continued his education at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans, graduating from medical school in 2002. During his time in LSUHSC, he completed four years of Emergency Medicine residency at Charity Hospital, where he served as chief resident in his final year.

Michael Odinet's Role during Hurricane Katrina

During Hurricane Katrina, Dr. Michael Odinet played a critical role in medical and humanitarian efforts. He coordinated all resident duties and schedules, spending six days in the hospital caring for patients with minimal resources and no power. After the hurricane, he led search and rescue efforts for trapped citizens and set up mobile medical units throughout New Orleans. These units provided 24-hour care for patients until rescue efforts were complete. He also established a temporary hospital to serve the community while revisions were made to the LSU interim hospital.

Professional Transition to Lafayette

After completing his training and residency, Dr. Michael Odinet was offered a full-time academic faculty position at LSU. However, he chose to pursue private practice, leading him to Lafayette in 2006. His transition to private practice allowed him to continue providing top-quality medical care in a new setting, leveraging his extensive background in emergency medicine.

Contributions at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital

Dr. Michael Odinet has been a member of the Medical Executive Committee at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for the last three years.
