About Dana Gunders
Deemed "the woman who helped start the waste-free movement" by Consumer Reports, Dana is a national expert who has dedicated her career to helping industry, policymakers, and consumers activate solutions to reduce food waste. Her landmark 2012 report "Wasted: How America is Losing Up to 40% of Its Food from Farm to Fork to Landfill" sparked a national dialogue about the consequences of food waste, and since then, she has continued strategize, inspire, and train those within the US food system on food waste reduction. Before becoming Executive Director at ReFED, she founded NRDC's initiative to reduce food waste and ran her own consultancy. She has also authored Waste Free Kitchen Handbook, testified in Congress, been an expert witness, and is behind the Save the Food campaign, a national media campaign that generated over $100M in donated media. Her work on food waste has been featured by John Oliver, CNN, NPR, NBC, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Real Simple, Cooking Light, Dr. Oz, Consumer Reports, and hundreds of other outlets. When not worrying about it professionally, Dana spends far too much time trying to get her children to eat broccoli stalks and apples, even if they have a spot on them.
