He served as Engineer/Senior Engineer/Specialist in Overhead Lines from 1993 to 2007, followed by a role as Manager of Transmission Lines from 2008 to 2010. His tenure at DEWA involved extensive work in overhead line engineering and management.

Throughout his career, Zakaria Hossain has been involved in various significant projects. He developed detailed technical specifications for a 330 kV double circuit EPC project in Nigeria. Additionally, he reviewed technical specifications and conceptual designs for the +/- 650 kV HVdc line Matiary – Lahore Project in Pakistan, as well as tower test plans for the same project.
