About Carl Myers
I have worked as a software engineer with a focus on internal tools since 2006 for companies of various sizes, including growth from 150 to 1000+. I am highly proficient in Java, moderately proficient in Python, and also competent in Ruby, shell, Perl, and C/C++. I'm also looking forward to an opportunity to learn Rust, Golang, or mobile development. I am an expert at build systems, internal tools, and code development workflows. My strengths include long-term thinking, a strong sense of ownership, solid architectural instinct, and an excellent track record on support-centered teams. I have a track record of successfully delivering projects large and small. I also have experience working on support rotations, supporting internal tools, and providing support to engineering teams to architect reliable and robust build workflows. I believe that there are times to do the quick-and-dirty 85% solution, but those times are rare. I believe mentoring and feedback are a critical job function, both giving and receiving. Developing future engineers means both skills and career opportunities. My favorite motto is "computers do what you tell them". Just like it takes a village to raise a kid, it takes a team to build great engineers. During my time at Amazon I developed a strong sense of project ownership. After that, I worked on the internal tools team at Palantir, working towards building a robust internal tools infrastructure that mirrored the capabilities I saw at Amazon. After a brief stint at a small San Jose startup called Pernixdata, I went on to work on an internal tools team at Cloudera where I helped to build out a very interesting build system which must seamlessly build software including both proprietary and open source components. Today, I am the manager of the CI Platforms team at Indeed. As a company, we are helping people get jobs, a mission we can all get behind! Individually, my team is driving a company-wide migration from Jenkins to Gitlab CI which will deliver a more reliable and scalable CI system. We, along with the many sibling teams in our corner of the organization, own many of the internal tools and processes we use to accomplish our mission at Indeed. It is our goal to improve those tools and processes so that every engineer at Indeed loves their job (even more) every day, and produces high quality software quickly and with ease. If this sounds interesting to you, reach out, we are always hiring! I AM NOT INTERESTED IN A CHANGE RIGHT NOW, but my resume is available on my website at the link below.
