Pearse O'donohue serves as the Director of DG Connect, specifically within the Directorate for Future Networks at the European Commission. In this capacity, he is responsible for conceptualizing innovative approaches to service platforms and the next generation of Internet technologies. His role includes overseeing the strategic development and implementation of policies related to cloud computing and software.
Policy Development in Digital Single Market
O'donohue is actively involved in policy development and research that supports the Digital Single Market, particularly in relation to 5G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and data flows. Previous Leadership Roles
Before his current position, Pearse O'donohue was the Deputy Head of Cabinet for Vice-President Neelie Kroes, who was the European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda. He also held the position of Head of the Radio Spectrum Policy Unit within DG CONNECT, where he focused on regulatory frameworks for radio spectrum management.
Experience in Irish Government and EU Representation
O'donohue has extensive experience in the Irish government, having held positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs. He also worked at the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU in Brussels, which provided him with a strong foundation in European policy-making and international relations. Additionally, he served as Assistant Director of the Brussels office of the Irish Business & Employers’ Confederation.
