He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Chemical Engineering (M Chem Engg) from the University of Mumbai between 2005 and 2007. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Multiphase Process Equipment Design from the Institute of Chemical Technology from 2007 to 2011. His expertise includes designing anaerobic and aerobic bioreactor systems, as well as algal bioreactors.

Before joining LanzaTech, Mayur Sathe gained diverse experience in academia and industry. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Newcastle from 2011 to 2014. He then served as a Research Scientist at Louisiana State University from 2014 to 2017. Following that, he held a position as a Research Scientist at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai from 2017 to 2018. He also worked as a Process Engineer at GHD in Newcastle, Australia, from 2018 to 2019.
