About Cintia Alfonso Fior

I am a psychologist, qualitative researcher, author of middle-grade novel "Moraline," and Founder of Rising Advocates, an educational advocacy group utilizing storytelling based on literary fiction to explore real-world issues of democracy, peace, and social responsibility. I have over two decades of experience working with children, youth and minority groups in South America, North America, and Africa. I served as the American Family Academy and Therapy Association (AFTA) chair of the Family Policy & Human Rights Committee. My areas of expertise include creating transformative learning practices based on critical peace education, curriculum development, capacity building, scaling up mental health services in LAMICs, human rights, advocacy, and community-based interventions with disenfranchised populations. Currently, I am synthesizing my experience in education, psychotherapy, conflict resolution, and children's advocacy through my organization, Rising Advocates. Our focus on critical thinking and awareness offers the potential to transform classrooms into collaborative communities with an emphasis on addressing race, violence, and environmental justice.
