About Jody Mueller
I am currently a full stack software developer at Mayo Clinic working on the Custom Application Development team. Previously, I was a software developer for 20+ years at IBM and had the chance to work on a wide variety of projects. What I like best about my job is being able to solve problems for users. It is rewarding to be able to make their jobs easier by adding new features, automating tedious tasks, or improving the speed and reliability of an application. In my most recent role, a capacity team needed up-to-date information on the systems and storage running in IBM Data Centers so they could make critical decisions about ordering hardware and adding new customers. Our team was able to automate the data gathering to allow the information to be updated on a daily basis rather than weekly. Automation also prevented potential user errors that were introduced during manual steps. Additionally, we created a user interface that allowed the capacity team to have access to all the data they needed in a single place rather than scattered across multiple sources, making their jobs easier. Ensuring code quality has always been important to me. Taking the time to make sure everything is working as designed helps build user trust. It can also prevent problems that would slow down the other developers and testers on the project. When problems do arise, I enjoy playing the role of a detective. I look for clues about what went wrong and test out different theories in order to solve the mystery. Whenever possible, I try to find solutions that could prevent similar issues in the future. I guess it is no surprise that in my spare time, I also enjoy solving puzzles like Sudoku, Cryptoquote, and crossword puzzles.
