About Carrie Maultsby Lute (She/Her)

We all have a unique story to tell—here's mine. My first career was as a competitive figure skater; picking up my first pair of skates at the age of two and moving away from home to train at the age of twelve. While my dreams of becoming an Olympian did not come to fruition, I did find a passion for world affairs in my role as a professional figure skater with Disney on Ice. Traveling to over 15 countries with a multilingual cast that included figure skaters and cast members from all over the world sparked my love for diversity, history, and culture. This fascination with culture led me to study Cultural Anthropology as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley and to study abroad for one year in West Africa, where I launched my first business selling fairtrade Ghanaian arts and crafts. My experience in entrepreneurship and the work of Muhammad Yunus led me back to the classroom to pursue an MBA from Mills College, a school known for teaching business as a force for social good. My professional experience has spanned from corporate environments, nonprofits, and educational institutions, to startups. As a marketing practitioner and educator (pracademic), I bring industry-relevant experiential learning to the classroom and connect students with purpose-driven organizations so they can provide strategic marketing help. I have led experiential student learning projects with over 75 organizations in a range of industries. In 2020, I was appointed Director of the Center for Transformative Action at Mills College where I created programming at the intersection of business, public policy, community development, and social justice and partnered with over 130+ organizations to discuss solutions and build models for combatting intractable problems. In 2021, I was awarded a Love Takes Action award by New York Life for my role in supporting small businesses during COVID. In 2022, I co-launched a Northeastern University Impact Accelerator, Community to Community: Policy Equity For All, that supports faculty efforts to conduct community-engaged research. For this work, I was a recipient of the Inaugural Global Network Accelerator Award. As Head of Partnerships for Northeastern's Oakland Campus, I am excited to support my institution's academic plan which is focused on creating impact in the real world. I work with a wide array of organizations in the Oakland/Bay Area—companies, nonprofits, and government—to co-design programs and partnerships that fit your distinct needs.
