Zhuang Fang Yi, PhD, currently holds dual roles in the field of machine learning and art. She serves as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Regrow Ag since 2021, operating in the Washington DC-Baltimore area. Additionally, she owns and oversees Geoyi.Art, a venture she has been actively managing since 2022 in Bethesda, Maryland.
Previous Experience in Geospatial Intelligence
Before her current roles, Zhuang held a significant position at Development Seed where she led the GeoAI team as a Machine Learning Engineer from 2017 to 2021. During her tenure, she focused on integrating machine learning with geospatial intelligence to enhance data analysis capabilities in the Washington D.C. Metro Area.
Educational Background
Zhuang holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Ecological Economics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which she attained after a five-year program from 2007 to 2012. She also earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geography from Sun Yat-Sen University, completing her studies between 2003 and 2007. Furthermore, she pursued data science certificates from The Data Incubator and Springboard in 2017.

Beyond her engineering roles, Zhuang is also an active artist. She was a Lead Geospatial Analyst and GIS Web Apps Developer for the China-UK Collaboration on International Forest Investment & Trade Program from 2015 to 2016, working in the Washington D.C. Metro Area, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Additionally, she held positions such as Assistant Professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Research Scientist at the World Agroforestry Centre between 2012 and 2016 in China.
