Rubin Observatory
Rubin Observatory, supported by NSF and DOE, focuses on answering significant questions about the Universe and offers a range of educational resources, including a game and animated video series.
Rubin Observatory Services
Rubin Observatory offers a range of services aimed at enhancing our understanding of the Universe. These include educational resources for students and educators, providing user-friendly investigation tools on topics in astronomy and astrophysics. Additionally, Rubin Observatory makes available an animated video series on YouTube, offering free educational content to the public. Moreover, it provides an interactive game called Space Surveyors, where players can simulate scanning the sky with Rubin's camera.
Rubin Observatory Events
Rubin Observatory will host the Rubin Community Workshop 2024 from July 22, 2024, to July 26, 2024, at SLAC in Menlo Park, CA. The workshop will include various sessions, all of which will be accessible for virtual participation. This event aims to engage the community in discussions and sharing of insights related to Rubin Observatory's ongoing and future projects.
Rubin Observatory Key Milestones
A significant milestone for Rubin Observatory occurred on March 7, 2024, when its primary/tertiary mirror was successfully moved from a storage building into the observatory. This critical progression marks a step forward in the observatory's mission to carry out the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST).
Rubin Observatory Funding and Management
Rubin Observatory's operations phase is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the US Department of Energy (DOE). The funding for these operations is managed by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under a cooperative agreement with NSF. DOE funding is managed by the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The observatory is operated by NSF's National Optical-Infrared Astronomy Research Laboratory (NOIRLab) and SLAC.
