About Jene Stefaniak

@jenestefaniak I own a luxury apparel development and production company based in the garment district of New York City. I oversee all steps of development from initial design through patternmaking, fitting, sampling, grading, marking, cutting, and finally production. We work with clients ranging from emerging designers to large runway brands, and specialize in menswear, womenswear, cut and sew knits, and swim. Throughout my life starting in childhood, I have always loved fashion and the art of making perfect clothes. Rather than going to design school, I focused my studies on craftsmanship techniques by studying bespoke tailoring under the Savile Row Tailors Guild at Newham College in London, followed by training in Haute Couture, patternmaking, and ladies tailoring at FIT in NYC. Whilst studying in London, I landed my first job in the atelier at couturier Bruce Oldfield, where I worked under the supervision of the head seamstress and fitter to assist in making eveningwear for some of the world's most esteemed royalty and members of high society. After my return to NYC I worked freelance in various ateliers as both a samplemaker and patternmaker. I've dedicated a significant amount of time during my professional career in education, teaching and mentoring the next generation of the fashion industry workforce. I currently teach at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and I spent many years teaching at the Fashion Class and running the fashion program at the Dwight School, as well as tutoring students privately.
