About Michael Dermer
We are all lonely entrepreneurs. And proud of it. Being an entrepreneur is not a job - it is an identity. Our idea is not an idea - it is oxygen. At times we feel like we need it to breath. And if you have not sat in those shoes, it's hard to understand. Anyone who asks "are you working on Columbus Day?" is not entrepreneur. We've been there. I left a prestigious law firm to start the first company in the US to reward people for being healthy. We were told by healthcare companies - "we will never pay people to be healthy." Over the course of the next 10 years, we built our company to over 600 employees and created an industry. Only to watch what we built over 10 years nearly get destroyed in 10 days by the 2008 financial crisis. Not only did we survive, but we went on to sell our company to an industry innovator and today are considered the pioneer of that industry. See the whole story here: https://youtu.be/RfnEsbkd2hA And that led to the creation of The Lonely Entrepreneur and our mission to help everyone with passion - turn that passion into success. But passion, grit and a good idea are not enough. We all must improve our skills as an entrepreneur every day. The Lonely Entrepreneur has the best job in the world - to help people turn their passion into success and have a chance at a more fulfilling life. And for those in our underserved communities where our institutions of capital, justice and education often fall short, starting a business is even more critical to a more fulfilling life.
