United States Trade and Development Agency
The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) helps create U.S. jobs by promoting the export of U.S. goods and services for infrastructure projects in emerging economies, generating significant returns on investment and fostering global economic growth.
Services
The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) assists companies in creating U.S. jobs by promoting the export of U.S. goods and services for priority infrastructure projects in emerging economies. USTDA links U.S. businesses to export opportunities through funding project preparation and partnership-building activities. This support helps develop sustainable infrastructure and fosters economic growth in partner countries. Each dollar USTDA programs generates an average of $231 in U.S. exports.
Key Projects
USTDA has supported more than $119 billion in U.S. exports since its inception. Notable projects include a technical assistance grant with Indonesia’s Nusantara Capital Authority for the development of smart city infrastructure, including data analytics, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Another key project involves a grant agreement with CSquared Link Holdings (Mauritius) Ltd for a feasibility study to expand affordable broadband in Africa. Similarly, USTDA has partnered with the Kenyan telecommunications company, Wilken Group Ltd, for a feasibility study to develop new fiber optic and 5G infrastructure.
Climate Mitigation Initiatives
USTDA's climate mitigation portfolio includes project preparation and partnership-building activities aimed at reducing global methane emissions, tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, and tripling nuclear power capacity by 2050. The agency funds pilot projects using U.S. technology in areas like advanced geothermal energy, ocean thermal energy conversion, and machine learning for electric grid management. USTDA is also investing in initiatives to support the President’s Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE), promoting low-emissions and climate-resilient infrastructure innovations in emerging economies.
Global Climate Partnership
USTDA’s Global Climate Partnership has funded over 80 activities aimed at advancing a greener future for the energy and transportation sectors. The agency supports the deployment of renewable energy sources combined with battery storage technology to provide affordable and reliable power in off-grid communities. USTDA also assists in developing frameworks for nuclear energy deployment and advancing small modular and advanced nuclear reactors. USTDA's efforts have resulted in the selection of U.S. technology for nuclear projects in Poland and Romania.
Global Procurement Initiative
USTDA’s Global Procurement Initiative focuses on promoting best-value procurement practices in emerging markets. This initiative brings foreign project sponsors to the United States to observe the innovative design, manufacturing, and operation of American products and services. This exposure supports their infrastructure development goals and encourages the adoption of U.S. technologies and practices in their homeland projects.
