About Thomas Chi
I'm an academic urologist at UCSF where my mission is to drive innovation and define the cutting edge across my missions of patient care, research, teaching, and operational management. What we do better and different from those around is how we define our impact on our field and our patients. To date, some specific highlights of my current work include: - Created a federally funded research program to study how kidney stones formed where we we use next generation technology in genomics, biomarkers, and big data to advance patient treatment options - Drove 16% growth in clinical volume for a urology department using a combination of regionalization, patient access, and program development strategies - Innovated medical device development and surgical techniques by establishing ultrasound as a new standard of care for image guidance in kidney stone surgery - Expanded our endourology educational fellowship program into a robust 2 year programmatic offering to attract the most talented trainees to UCSF to become urologic leaders of tomorrow
