About Yasmin Bhan

Yasmin Bhan is an NYC high school senior and the founder of a program called “Brazilians of New York”, which spotlights the unique Brazilian cultural contribution to the fast-paced NYC environment. Yasmin lived in Brazil for several years, where she absorbed the love of people that pervades Rio culture and which her Carioca mother brought to her home in New York. She has inherited a fascination for the individual stories of each member of her community and seeks to understand and share the unique personal histories that combine to shape our shared experience. Additionally, Yasmin works with multiple environmental justice organizations planning strikes and rallies to fight against climate-driven disadvantages facing underprivileged communities. For several years, she has been studying Communications, Journalism, and Climate Change at institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania and Yale, and has participated in the Youth Culture: Race Identity and Social Behavior program at the School of the New York Times.
