About Justin Hendrix

I am concerned with issues at the intersection of technology, media and democracy. I began my career at The Economist, where I observed how digital media was changing the landscape of journalism. I pursued a graduate degree to better understand the impact of technology, and joined NYC Media Lab, where I got a closer look at the information ecosystem. In 2017, I teamed up with faculty at five universities to develop “Tech, Media & Democracy,” a course designed to help students explore the information ecosystem’s impact on democracy. In 2020, I co-founded Tech Policy Press, a nonprofit media venture focused on the effects of technology on democracy. Tech Policy Press is assembling a journalistic collective with new insights on these interconnected issues. I also collaborate regularly with Just Security, a publication associated with the New York University School of Law, where I serve on the editorial board. I am a contributor to its online repository of information related to the events of January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol, with a focus on the role of social media.
