His educational background provides a strong foundation in both physical sciences and information security, establishing his expertise in these fields.
Background
David Ortiz began his career as a weapons officer in the Air Force. He later transitioned to scientific research and development within the Intelligence Community. By the age of 26, Ortiz had designed his first invention for the U.S. Government. In 2003, he moved to the U.S. Air Force Reserve to concentrate on research, development, and security implementation within the Federal Government.
Achievements
David Ortiz is a published author and holds two patents in laser physics—one for detection and the other for lens design for high-speed data transfer. He has held positions in space launch analysis, cyberspace planning, security operations center design & management, cyber analysis, optical research, national cyber policy, and cyberspace operations.
Leadership and Mentorship
David Ortiz supports the Director of Joint Forces Headquarters – Cyber Forward as an IMA, advising on various aspects of cyberspace operations, policy, planning, and capabilities. He mentors rising cyber officers and airmen, helping to shape the next generation of leaders in this critical field.

David Ortiz is actively involved in the Alumni Association Board of Directors and serves as the Club Officer for Maryland Alumni. These roles reflect his commitment to giving back to the community and supporting educational initiatives.
