About Brian Sabowitz, MD, Ms, Facp
I began my career as a biomedical engineering working in the Life Science Project Division at Johnson Space Center. I left NASA after the Challenger accident and joined Payload Systems Engineering in Massachusetts developing a commercial parabolic flight program. Shortly after that I joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard and attended Undergraduate Pilot Training in Enid, Oklahoma. Throughout Pilot Training my struggle with Obesity became more and more difficult. After pilot training I applied to and was accepted to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where I received my medical degree in 1996. I completed an Internal Medicine residency in 1999 and began a private practice in Lake Havasu City Arizona. During medical school I gained a great deal of weight and ultimately opted to have bariatric surgery to get my chronic disease of obesity under control. I became interested in the chronic disease of obesity and established Arizona Medical Weight Loss Clinic in 2005. Since then, I have devoted my practice to the treatment of obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome. In 2009, I joined New Dimensions Weight Loss Surgery in San Antonio, TX and began work on developing what at the time was the only private, community based program that treats the chronic disease of obesity utilizing medical, behavioral, nutritional and surgical tools in one comprehensive, integrated program. In 2013, I establish Alamo City Medical Weight Loss. I continue to serve as a flight surgeon in the Arizona Air National Guard. Specialties: Bariatric (Obesity) Medicine Internal Medicine
