I have a M.A. in Community Counseling with emphasis in Addictions from Marshall University. I have additional doctoral study in clinical psychology at Duquesne University. I have a B.A. with honors in Psychology from Davis and Elkins College. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Texas and licensed as a Professional Counselor in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC. I am also a National Certified Counselor and certified in treating trauma patients. I have been a clinical director for a successful intensive residential treatment and transitional program for young women with complex psychiatric issues and a lead counselor for a successful wilderness therapy program for troubled youths. I have co-developed behavioral programs in two intensive residential treatment facilities and a correctional facility. I also have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families in residential settings, home based settings, wilderness settings, clinics, community agencies, colleges, as a contractor, juvenile correctional facilities, and as a family program facilitator. I have particular expertise in counseling young people categorized with Disruptive Behavior Disorders and Substance Abuse Disorders, people categorized with Personality Disorders, people categorized with Mood or Anxiety Disorders, people with relationship or self-esteem concerns, people with career and academic difficulties, and people with a history of trauma and abuse. My theoretical orientation for counseling is a phenomenological, holistic, and humanistic one. My approach involves collaboration between therapist and client, making the therapeutic venture a sharing of responsibility. I have a social, biological, psychological, and cultural perspective because these realities limit one’s freedom of choice. I am strength based and integrate techniques from cognitive-behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, family systems therapy, and experiential therapy.
