Rotana Hay completed high school in Cambodia before securing a full scholarship from the government of Singapore to pursue a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at the National University of Singapore, which he completed in 2008. He furthered his education at the Imperial College of London, earning a Master of Science in Concrete Structures and Business Management within a year. His advanced studies led him to the University of California, Berkeley, where he was awarded a Fulbright Science & Technology fellowship to pursue a PhD. His PhD research focused on green high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete.
Professional Background of Rotana Hay
Rotana Hay began his professional career as a structural engineer for Arup Singapore from 2010 to 2012. After completing his PhD, he worked as a Technical Manager for a ready-mixed concrete supplier in Cambodia. He then joined NYU Abu Dhabi's Advanced Materials & Building Efficiency Laboratory (AMBER Lab) as a Research Scientist and Laboratory Manager. His career is marked by significant contributions to civil engineering, particularly in the field of sustainable concrete solutions.

During his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, Rotana Hay proposed an innovative double-skin façade system using green high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete and conducted a life cycle assessment to prove its sustainability. His research extends to the morphology and mechanical properties of calcium alumino silicate hydrates (C-(A-)S-H), reactive MgO cement (RMC), calcined limestone, and limestone calcined clay cement (LC3). These works have been published in renowned peer-reviewed journals, highlighting his contributions to advancing sustainable building materials.
