Sara Kenkare-Mitra holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the school of medicine and a Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology at UCSF. Her educational background has equipped her with extensive expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology, and therapeutic development.

Sara Kenkare-Mitra's professional background includes a notable 23-year tenure at Genentech, where she most recently served as Senior Vice President of Development Sciences. During her time at Genentech, she was instrumental in the filing of over 100 Investigational New Drug/clinical trial applications worldwide and contributed to the approval of 15 medicines for various diseases, including cancers and neurological disorders. Additionally, she enabled the successful development and approval of over 15 companion diagnostics.
