Previous Experience at The Nature Conservancy

John Beavers worked at The Nature Conservancy for seventeen years, holding various leadership positions. He was the Director of the Guatemala Country Program from 2004 to 2006, followed by Director of PROARCA/APM in the Central America Region until 2007. He then served as Director for Central America from 2006 to 2009 and as Associate Director of Conservation Programs for Latin America from 2009 to 2011.

Leadership at National Audubon Society

From 2011 to 2019, John Beavers held the position of Vice President & Director of the International Alliances Program at the National Audubon Society. He led international conservation efforts to protect critical bird habitats and biodiversity in Latin America and the Caribbean. He also launched Audubon’s first international conservation strategy during his tenure.

Educational Background

John Beavers earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Rutgers University, where he studied from 1982 to 1986. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, completing his studies from 1992 to 1994.

Conservation Initiatives and Achievements

Throughout his career, John Beavers has been involved in significant conservation initiatives. He worked on on-the-ground conservation in the Maya Forest spanning Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico. He developed a $2.6 million bird-based tourism partnership with the Inter-American Development Bank and played a key role in a $24.4 million debt-swap between the Guatemalan and US Governments.
