His career at NAVSEA spanned over three decades, starting as an Executive Director and Engineering Manager from 1976 to 2007, during which he worked in both the Washington D.C. Metro Area and Naples, Italy.

Edward S. Godfrey holds a Master of Science (M.S.) in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology, which he completed from 1996 to 1998. He also earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech between 1975 and 1980. Additionally, he has completed several executive courses, including the Navy Corporate Business Course and the Navy Executive Business Course at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the APEX Senior Executive Program through the Department of Defense.
