About Ross Chanin
Ross Chanin, co-founder and CEO of Artifact, was inspired to create the platform following the loss of his grandfather's stories, aiming to preserve personal histories and conversations.
Ross Chanin, Co-Founder & CEO
Ross Chanin is the Co-Founder & CEO of Artifact. His vision for Artifact was deeply influenced by his personal relationships and experiences, particularly with his grandfather, Grandpa Gil. Chanin's leadership is characterized by a commitment to preserving personal histories and stories.
Inspiration Behind Artifact
The inspiration behind Artifact stemmed from Ross Chanin's reflection on his relationship with his grandfather. Chanin realized that many of his grandfather’s stories had vanished with him. This realization drove him to create Artifact. The idea was seeded from a desire to capture conversations and stories that were no longer possible, particularly those from the labor movement in the 1950s.
Founding Story of Artifact
Artifact was initially created for friends and family. Ross Chanin and George Quraishi conceptualized the idea over a conversation and a few beers. With this vision in mind, they established Artifact to preserve personal histories. George Quraishi, who helped create the first Artifacts, is also a co-founder alongside Chanin. Chanin also considers his grandfather, Grandpa Gil, as a co-founder for inspiring the very essence of Artifact.
