Prior to that, he was the Chief of Environment, Energy & Open Space at the City of Boston from 2012 to 2015 and a Board Member at the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority during the same period. Between 2008 and 2012, he was a LEED Project Manager in the Development Department at Boston Properties. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Environmental Protection Specialist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 2001 to 2005.

He earned an MBA in Real Estate Development and Strategy, and a Master's Degree in Sustainable Systems from the University of Michigan (Stephen M. Ross School of Business) between 2005 and 2008.
