From 2003 to 2010, she was at WSP as an Associate Director. Joanne joined Arup in 2010, advancing through roles including Associate, Associate Director for Middle East Transport Planning Leader, and several Director-level positions across regions like Dubai, Sydney, and Kuala Lumpur. Her extensive experience spans over two decades and multiple regions including the UK, Middle East, and Australasia.

Joanne Carmichael holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the University of Leeds, completed in 1997. She furthered her education with multiple specialized programs at Imperial College London, including a Master's module in Business Economics (2011-2012) and Smart Cities (2014-2015).
