Richard Chan Education and Qualifications

Richard Chan holds a Bachelor of Business (First Class Honours) from Nanyang Technological University, which he earned in 1994. He furthered his education by earning an MBA from Columbia University in 2002. In addition, he attended the Stanford Executive Program in 2013. Richard is also a CFA charterholder, showcasing his expertise and commitment to the field of finance.

Richard Chan Professional Background

Richard Chan began his career at GIC in 1994 as an Investment Officer, working in the Foreign Exchange Department for six years. He gained significant experience in G7 currencies before the Euro's introduction and Asian currencies post the Asian Financial Crisis. He spent two of these years in GIC's London office. Richard was also a founding member of the Currency Quantitative Group, where he developed and implemented a systematic FX trading model.

Richard Chan Leadership in Equities

As the Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific Equities at GIC, Richard Chan led the Asian equities investment team and managed a regional Asian equities portfolio since 2002. He contributed significantly by leading the Vietnam Interest Group and being a member of the China Business Group. Under his leadership, GIC was granted the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) license in 2005, allowing them to invest in A-shares in China.
