Additionally, he worked as Technical Director in both Regulatory Affairs and Environmental & Regulatory Affairs from 1997 to 1999. His extensive tenure at Avon spans over 18 years, contributing to various aspects of product safety and regulatory affairs.
Education and Expertise
Steve Gettings holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Surrey, where he studied from 1981 to 1985. He also earned a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry with a focus on Toxicology from the same institution between 1977 and 1981. Furthermore, he obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) from Georgetown University Law Center from 1993 to 1996, enhancing his expertise in regulatory affairs and legal compliance.
Involvement in Industry Organizations
Steve Gettings has actively participated in various industry organizations. He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Institute for In Vitro Sciences from 2011 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2018. He represents Avon on the Industry Council for the Regulatory Acceptance of Alternatives (ICARAA) since 2011. Additionally, he served on the Board of Trustees for the Toxicology Education Foundation from 2015 to 2017, contributing to advancements in toxicology education.

Before joining Avon, Steve Gettings worked at the Personal Care Products Council (formerly the Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Association) from 1988 to 1997. He held various roles, including Director of Toxicology and Assistant General Counsel/Director of Safety & Scientific Regulatory Affairs. His experience in this organization provided him with a strong foundation in safety and regulatory affairs within the personal care industry.
