He was also the CEO of Galenea, a biopharmaceutical company focused on therapies for central nervous system diseases, from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, he co-led Genta Incorporated, an oncology-focused biopharmaceutical company, as Co-CEO from 1997 to 1998.

In 1997, John Oyler founded Telephia, Inc., an information company that served the telecommunications industry. He served as President from 1997 to 2002, growing the company until it was ultimately acquired by The Nielsen Company.
