Define DevOps engineering in simple terms: where Software engineering is all about creating products that make money, DevOps is all about deploying products in a way that saves money. The things I do every day save my company money: automating everything cuts out unnecessary labor, deploying and scaling up rapidly gets us to market quicker and cuts down on expensive waiting time, monitoring and alerting help us fix problems fast so we don't lose customers, infrastructure on the cloud is cheaper than buying hardware (when properly managed), and better communication between Dev and Ops means better customer experiences. A good DevOps engineer takes a great company and makes it run leaner and more reliably, cutting costs so the product can perform better and make more customers happy! I have developed a number of skills to aid me in my mission of making my company as efficient as possible, and have plans to add many more. Some of these skills include: - AWS services - Kubernetes - Terraform - Python, Ruby, Bash I'm a technology enthusiast, and always dabbling with anything that promises even better, leaner DevOps possibilities. Some of my current dabblings include Google Cloud, Kubernetes and Mesos, Python and Google Go.
