Corinna Abesser

Research Programme Lead Geothermal Energy @ British Geological Survey

About Corinna Abesser

I have more than 20 years’ experience in environmental and energy-related research involving projects related to resource assessment and sustainable use, environmental impacts, policy & regulation. Working in various roles as hydrogeologist, hydrochemist and numerical modeller within the research and commercial sector, I have the experience and skills required to build and lead research programmes in a range of applied disciplines, and the ability to recognise opportunities for cross-fertilisation and knowledge transfer between different fields. As head of geothermal energy research at the BGS, I am passionate about progressing the development and application of geothermal energy technologies in the UK. I collaborate closely with academia, industry and policy makers/ regulators to identify knowledge gaps, devise research programmes and establish collaborations and linkages between otherwise disconnected sectors. As an advocate of evidence-based decision-making, I have a keen interest in the promotion of science and in building better communications between research/academia and policy makers. I currently hold a Parliamentary academic fellowship at POST. In addition to developing a science briefing for Parliamentarians, this is an exciting opportunity for me to gain first-hand experience in and understanding of science communication in policy.
