Namrata Sengupta, Ph.D., currently serves as the Program Manager for Scientific Public Engagement at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. She has held this position since 2021, focusing on the development of educational programs. Her responsibilities include creating classroom STEM resources, organizing tours, and delivering public talks to enhance scientific literacy and engagement within the community.
Previous Experience in Science Communication
Before her current role, Sengupta worked as a Science Communications Officer at the Broad Institute from 2018 to 2020. She also served as a Science Communication Specialist at JoVE from 2016 to 2018. Additionally, she was involved in outreach initiatives as the Cofounder and Project Lead of the What's in Our Waters Outreach Program at Clemson University from 2013 to 2016.
Educational Background
Namrata Sengupta earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Honors) from St. Xavier's College. She then pursued a Master of Science in Biotechnology at Bangalore University. Sengupta completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Toxicology at Clemson University, where she was also a Doctoral Researcher from 2011 to 2016.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
Sengupta advocates for health and science initiatives that address disparities affecting communities of color. She serves on the Citizens’ Committee on Civic Unity, appointed by the City Manager of Cambridge, where she focuses on promoting civic engagement and unity. Additionally, she volunteers as a STEM career coach, assisting early career professionals and students in transitioning to non-laboratory roles.
