Before joining Brookfield Asset Management, Niel Thassim had an extensive career at RREEF, where he held multiple senior roles. From 2009 to 2012, he was the Managing Director and CEO of Real Estate for the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2009, he served as the COO for RREEF Alternatives Asia Pacific. Thassim also held the title of Global Chief Information Officer from 2003 to 2006 and was the Business Manager in Australia from 2000 to 2003.
Early Career in Finance and Accounting
Niel Thassim began his career in finance and accounting with Coopers & Lybrand as an Auditor from 1995 to 1997. He then served as the Property Financial Controller at Bankers Trust in Australia from 1997 to 1998. Subsequently, he worked at Credit Suisse in London on Product Control-Fixed Income & Derivatives from 1998 to 1999. Thassim also served as the Head of Property Accounting at Colonial First State Property Management from 1999 to 2000.
Educational Background and Certifications
Niel Thassim holds a Master of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University, achieved between 2001 and 2009. He earned his Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney, where he studied Economics and Accounting from 1991 to 1993. Thassim is also a Chartered Accountant, having studied Accountancy at the Institute of Chartered Accountants from 1994 to 1996. Moreover, he attended Sydney Grammar during his early education.
