About Matthew Gregory
“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” - Bill Watterson I have 25 years of experience with everything from home-grown HA clusters and virtualization to embedded fabric count systems in textile plants that went all the way to the lading printer in the shipping office. There is very little I haven't done. Yes, I have AWS experience. More, I have stress tested AWS deployments against OpenStack at Cisco. I have Docker and Django and Flask and CI/CD and Jenkins and more apache library skills than you can count with an Abacus. I've visualized multi-terabit daily data asynchronous inputs and petabyte clusters of NoSQL. I've written reactive javascript with Handlebars microservice content merged from separate CMS and CRM. I've worked with parallelized cluster computing and Google Colab for experimental neuronal mapping of sodium ion uptake as well as HL7 and Ecat scan data before DICOM packaging and routing. There is, apparently, one down side to me. I'm an older candidate. I didn't just graduate and I'm not trying to build my ego and my career at the same time. I say this because there is a very real and pervasive age bias in the industry today. Much of what is taught in schools today wasn't even theorized when I was in school. Thus most of my experience and knowledge is self-taught. This practical and hands-on approach is very different than the overwhelming majority of candidates and requires a flexible manager to verify and accept into their team. I am also very much pro open source and open knowledge. We all stand on the shoulders of giants so owning the giants is an obvious path to wealth as well as intollerance, bigotry and abuse. P.S. I am not jaded, but as a borderline autistic natural introvert that prefers facts and logic to human chaos I was an easy target for social climbers. I'm not traditionally ambitious... I just want to hack. If you want that kind of head-down ubercoder then I'm definitely your guy. If you want a salesman that plays legos with stack exchange code written by others then I definitely am not.
