Dmitry Kazanov earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, studying from 2002 to 2003. Before that, he completed a Master’s degree in Mathematical Methods in Economics from Novosibirsk State University (NSU) between 1997 and 2002. This strong educational foundation provided him with the technical and analytical skills necessary for his career in the oil and gas industry.

In his role at Chevron, Dmitry Kazanov has made several key contributions to the Gorgon Subsurface project. He developed Phase 3 dynamic models to support FID for Stage 2, coordinated Stage 2 Phase 2 and Phase 3 development plan optimisation, and served as a Qualified Reserves Estimator. Additionally, he completed a rapid update of reservoir models by integrating early-time pulse tests, provided ongoing reservoir management support, and developed complex reservoir engineering tools and workflows. He has also collaborated with Chevron's corporate research centre and provided technical coaching and mentoring within the business unit.
