What brings out the best in you? Is it the people you surround yourself with? Doing work that lets you push the envelope? Giving back to your community? For me, it's all of the above. Most importantly, I believe we can deliberately create our own best worlds. This world is one where success is a mindset and space (and patience) is given for failing fast, learning, and pushing forward. A "lightbulb" moment for me was discovering the real meaning of "strength". I used to think that a "strength" was merely something you were good at; but many of us are good at things we would rather not do anymore as a job or career. When you re-frame the concept of "strength" as something you are good at AND something that gives you energy ... well, that's a superpower! My strengths are creating new things, inspiring people to get excited about them, and relentless study and execution to see them get done. I lead the Digital Transformation team in Global Virtual Engineering at Cisco. Our job is to automate anything we can get our hands on. Why? Because it frees up everyone to focus on the things they do best. It allows us to use cutting-edge machine learning in ways that empower people. It is a joy to watch a people and teams transform their workflow using platforms you have built; even better is watching your team get excited about their impact. I also don't believe in limitations. Where's the rule that says you only have to have one job and one interest? I love studying machine learning, math, Renaissance art, the Great Wars of the 20th century, economics, options trading, Pink Floyd, and American History. I also love being a husband and dad. Love what you do and it'll bring out the best in you.
