His earlier experience includes roles as a Communications System Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton from 1993 to 1995, a Staff Engineer at PrairieComm from 2000 to 2003, and a Senior Engineer at Motorola from 1997 to 2000. He also served as an Engineering Intern at the Department of Defense during his studies.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) and a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) from Virginia Tech, where he studied from 1988 to 1993.
