Dermot Carey has a strong educational background in health and safety and environmental management. He studied at the National University of Ireland, Galway, earning a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Laws from 1982 to 1986. He later obtained a Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare from the University of Limerick from 1994 to 1996. Additionally, he studied Environmental Science at the Institute of Technology, Sligo, where he achieved a BSc in Environmental Management from 2011 to 2013.
Role at Health and Safety Authority
Since 2017, Dermot Carey has also served as a Non-Executive Director at the Health and Safety Authority in Dublin, Ireland. His involvement with the authority follows a previous role as a Board Member from 2007 to 2013. In these capacities, he has contributed to the governance and strategic direction of health and safety policies in Ireland.
Leadership in Safe-T-Cert
Dermot Carey acts as the Country Manager of Safe-T-Cert in the Republic of Ireland. In this role, he oversees a health and safety accreditation service that includes over 300 contractors across the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Great Britain. His responsibilities include managing the Safe-T-Cert accreditation service and liaising with government departments and the education sector on safety and training issues.
