Lemanu P.S. Mauga began his military career in 1978, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated in 1982 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Mauga served during the Persian Gulf War as an Infantry Platoon Leader in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 2006, he was recalled to active duty for Operation Iraqi Freedom as an Operations Officer. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2007 after 23 years of service.

Roles in American Samoa Government

After retiring from the U.S. Army, Lemanu P.S. Mauga served the American Samoa government in various important roles. He was Chief of the Office of Property Management and Military Liaison for the Governor's Office from 2007 to 2009. Additionally, Mauga was elected as a Senator in the Fono for Sua County #2 and held key positions such as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Budget & Appropriations and Homeland Security, Immigration, and Legal Affairs.
