Tsvetomir Velkov began his career in mining as a student intern at the Chelopech mine. He attended St. Ivan Rilsky University of Mining and Geology, where he developed a foundational understanding of geotechnical engineering. Post-graduation, Velkov transitioned to a permanent role as a Geotechnical Engineer at the mine in 2001.

Starting as a Geotechnical Engineer, Tsvetomir Velkov has held several senior positions such as Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Mine Superintendent, Technical Services Manager, and Operations Manager. In his role within the Chelopech mine, Velkov played a crucial part in transforming the Smart Center from a pilot project to full operation. His leadership resulted in numerous successful optimization projects. In recognition of his contributions, Velkov was appointed General Manager of the Chelopech mine in 2022.
