As a public and private board member, angel investor, and c-suite executive, she guides organizations to reach the next level, helping them see around corners and craft winning strategies. She helps public companies respond to disruptors, growth-stage companies work through organizational and process change, and startups develop brand positioning and scale revenue. For two decades, Maria worked as a digital business leader and CEO. She helped build some of the world’s most beloved brands, widely used products, and reliably scalable platforms, as an early product leader at Amazon, GM of NPR Digital, CEO of Etsy, and CMO of SmartThings. For her pioneering work, Maria was recognized as one of 25 Most Influential People on the Web by Business Week. BOARD WORK Maria is a valued independent board director with 10+ years of service on public, private, and nonprofit boards. She currently serves on the boards of Perch Energy, a community solar company and of the nonprofit Pew Research Center and American Journalism Project. Previous Board roles: Spoonflower, a D2C ecommerce company acquired by Shutterfly in 2021; Control4 (NASDAQ: CTRL), McClatchy (NYSE: MNI) and venture-backed MyEnergy (acq. by Google Nest) and Relay Foods (merged w/Door-to-Door Organics). CURRENT WORK IN HEALTHCARE INNOVATION Maria is excited about the burgeoning consumerization and business model innovation in the healthcare industry. As an EIR with Redesign Health, she conceived and helped launch DUOS, which is helping older adults access the services they need to live independently. Maria is an angel investor and advisor to several digital health startups, including Pocket Health. She completed a Master in Healthcare Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania in May 2022.
