About John M. Rhee
Dr. Rhee received his B.S. from Stanford University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with Highest Distinction and departmental Honors. He then obtained his M.D. from UCSF (University of California, San Francisco), graduating Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Rhee then completed both his internship in General Surgery and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF, followed by a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Rhee is currently a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at Emory University School of Medicine. As a spinal surgeon at Emory since 2001, he specializes in cervical spine surgery, lumbar spine surgery, and spinal deformity correction surgery. Dr. Rhee’s academic research has been focused primarily on the cervical spine. He has published extensively in numerous peer reviewed journals, receiving multiple awards for his research. He has also written and edited several influential textbooks on spinal surgery. In addition, Dr. Rhee is widely regarded as a worldwide authority and lecturer on the cervical spine. As such, he has served as Program Chairman, faculty, visiting Professor, and invited lecturer at numerous Universities, meetings, and courses, both nationally and internationally. In 2021, Dr. Rhee was honored to serve as the 49th President of CSRS (Cervical Spine Research Society) - the medical society recognized as the international authority on disorders of the cervical spine.
