Chief Commercial Officer Will Bisset

Will Bisset serves as the Chief Commercial Officer, collaboratively spearheading initiatives to optimize production efficiencies in the black soldier fly (BSF) industry. His role involves leveraging cutting-edge technology and fostering partnerships within the sector to drive sustainable growth and innovation.

Collaboration with EnviroFlight on Entosight Neo

Will Bisset collaborated with EnviroFlight to develop and trial Entosight Neo, a sophisticated black soldier fly breeding technology that enhances neonate counting and dosing. The collaboration materialized through a Letter of Intent (LOI) signed in October 2023, initiating the deployment and trial at EnviroFlight’s Innovation Center in Apex, North Carolina starting November 2023.

Launch of the InSAFE Research Program

Will Bisset played a pivotal role in unveiling a £430,000 research program named InSAFE with the University of Leeds. Funded by Innovate UK and BBSRC, the program aims to formulate protocols and codes of practice for the UK insect farming industry. It evaluates the use of non-permissive feedstocks such as pig slurry, chicken manure, and sewage sludge in black soldier fly farming.

Development of Entoexplore Demonstrator Facility

Bisset supervised the development and installation of Entoexplore, an advanced insect-rearing demonstrator facility at The National Pig Centre on the University of Leeds' research farm. The facility, unique in the UK for using non-permissive feedstocks, mimics commercial rearing conditions with its environmental control system and Wi-Fi data monitoring, aiming to improve understanding of various feedstocks' impacts on BSF production.

Outlook on UK Insect Farming Legislation and Market

Will Bisset advocates that revising UK legislation to allow non-permissive feedstocks for insect farming could significantly reduce insect protein prices, challenging traditional protein sources like fishmeal and soymeal. He envisions the UK leading globally in the insect farming sector, enhancing its food and feed supply security.
