About Charles Herrera
I am a senior penetration tester in EY's Advanced Security Center based in Houston, TX. Professionally, I focus on the systems and network aspects, though web and mobile application testing are my primary interests. I hold a Master's from The University of Texas at San Antonio in the field of Information Systems and Cyber Security, with a concentration in Information Assurance. I am particularly interested in the areas of penetration testing, cyber forensics, and systems administration, but I am in the process of transitioning to the field and exploring the different specialties within. I am also a recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Political Science, a professional level of proficiency in German, and I used that knowledge to gain experience in digital marketing and data analytics, among other related disciplines. My core strength, as a result, is the ability to straddle the line between the business and technical sides of an organization. I am at home writing lines of code and writing a novel in my spare time, I am taking courses in Systems Analysis and Design, Project Management, and Security Risk Analysis, and at the same time I plan on taking the test for the Network+ and Security+ certifications in the very near future. My passion is in technology - particularly cyber security - and how it fits within the broader business context; while I may be seeking more technical roles at the moment, I am open to and interested in helping to bridge the gap that sometimes exists between IT and more traditional business fields.
